Alhaji Grusah has revealed that news of the demise of legendary Black Stars striker Opoku Afriyie brought him to tears.

The former Hearts and Kotoko striker died on Sunday at age 75 after battling sickness.

Since his demise, there have been loads of tribute to celebrate the man whose two goals won Ghana its third AFCON in 1978.

Grusah worked with Afriyie at the early stages of his career and he still has fond memories him.

The experienced soccer administrator mentioned respect as the attribute that set Afriyie apart from his colleagues.

Grusah told Tru FM in his over four-decade experience as a club owner, he has never met a player who is as respectful and submissive as the late striker.

"None of the players I trained was respectful like Opoku Afriyie. Opoku Afriyie was a respectful man and he respects himself a lot. If I want to tell you what Opoku Afriyie has done for me it will take us a day. He was concerned about the current state of King Faisal than me.

“He was giving us support when I changed Olympics Babies to King Faisal Babies and continued supporting us when we were promoted from Colts football to Division 1 and up until his death, he still supported us.

"Opoku Afriyie is such that if you are not closer to him, you will doubt his good character but he had a good heart. He was giving me about five-thousand to ten-thousand dollars when he returns from any Black Stars game or abroad."
