Former head coach of Great Olympics, Godwin Attram has disclosed that he is often saddened whenever he sees Mohammed Salah flourishing at Liverpool and for Egypt when Samuel Afum could have been there.

Attram who was speaking in a yet to be released interview with Ghanaweb revealed that Affum should have been doing greater exploits that Salah considering the immense talent the budding player had. Attram and Affum both played for Smouha Sporting Club in Egypt but the two had to part ways after Attram left for Saudi Arabia whiles Affum moved to Switzerland.

Afum had bagged in 13 goals for Hearts of Oak to become the league’s joint-top scorer to earn the interest of the Egyptian club. He was instrumental for Smouha in his second season scoring 7 goals to make him the clubs top scorer before the league was cancelled.

Afum, however, fell behind the radar following his departure from Smouha Sporting Club.

Speaking to Ghanaweb on the Sports Check show, Attram said he sheds tears at the thought of Afum because he was at his peak when Liverpool’s striker, Mohammed Salah was struggling to make a name for himself in Egypt.

“I sit down here and cry that Mohamed Salah was able to make it to the top and not Samuel Afum,” Godwin Attram said.

Attram added that there was no one to inspire the Ghanaian “because I left the boy and I went to Saudi Arabia and he went to Switerzland. Whenever he’s on holidays he comes to me alright and I say Affum have you trained but he would say, I have trained already. So till today whenever I see Mohammed Salah, Terek and Imani, I ask how can they be on top and not Samuel Affum?”

“Those times when you see Samuel Affum,” they look up to us because “I showed him the way but when I left you see, he fell off.”

Attram who was speaking on the importance of ex-footballers in the life of players went on to say that, “In football, its always good you have people who motivate you and advice you, I can do it alone because I have a strong mentality but others cannot do it alone.”

29-year-old Samuel Affum last played for Ilves Tampere in the Finnish football league but his contract was terminated by the club in June 2019 by mutual consent.
