Kwasi Appiah has explained the reason behind his appointment as the Head of Sporting Affairs of Asante Kotoko.

Following the announcement of the Interim Management Committee (IMC) following the dissolution of Dr Kwame Kyei's led board and Nana Yaw Amponsah's led management, Kwesi Appiah was named as the technical director.

However, a release by the club in November said club legend and former coach, Malik Jabir has taken up the technical directorship role.

Prosper Narteh Ogum, who is the head coach and also served on the IMC has been relieved off his duties and is now solely focused on his job as the head trainer.

Speaking to Asempa FM in an interview, Appiah explained the decision behind the changes.

According to him, despite accepting the position initially, he did not deserve the role since he is mostly away due to his role as the head coach of the Sudanese national team.

"We wanted Prosper Narteh Ogum to concentrate on the team and that was why Malik Jabir was appointed. I was the technical director but I am mostly away and we needed someone to come in as soon as possible who help the coach," he said.

"The truth is that I did not deserve the technical directorship of Asante Kotoko due to my work with Sudan so we all agreed that let us bring in Malik Jabir because he has coached the various national teams," he added.

He also hinted that the club will appoint an assistant technical director.

"He [Malik Jabir] is a former player and he is willing to do that work. He is willing to travel with the team and for the games that he cannot travel with the team, his assistant will join the team and assist Prosper Nartey Ogum," he added.

Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko will clash with their bitterest rivals, Hearts of Oak in the Matchday 13 games at the Baba Yara Stadium in the ongoing 2024/25 Ghana Premier League.
