Musician and media personality Blakk Rasta has praised former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan for stepping away from political activities.
Blakk Rasta expressed his surprise upon learning that Gyan was part of the manifesto team for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) under Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. The 3FM presenter recalled the backlash Gyan faced on social media after this news became public, given his status as a national icon.
“When I heard that Asamoah Gyan had joined the manifesto team and was openly supporting a political party, I wondered, 'Who is advising this man?' When you rise above politics, you become a national icon, free from political affiliations. Some people are seen as national heroes and legends. When Asamoah did this, I saw the insults he received on social media. Many said things that we cannot repeat on radio,” Rasta said on the Urban Blend show aired on 3FM.
He also congratulated the retired footballer for recognising his mistake and disassociating himself from politics, thanking his advisors as well.
“Better late than never. Whoever advised him to do this, I doff my hat to you, Asamoah. There was no need to join any political party. At this point, it doesn't even matter which party it was; you have risen above politics. Stay there, and do not descend so low,” he added.
In a press release, Gyan announced that he is no longer involved in politics and will focus on using his foundation to nurture football talents and build training facilities and pitches.
