Accra Hearts of Oak midfielder Emmanuel Nettey has dispelled notions of the existence of voodoo in football.

Allegations of voodoo otherwise known as black magic in the Ghana Premier League have over the years been made with some quarters believing that the juju is on most occasions the decider of game.

Also, some footballers are believed to use juju to enhance their performances and also destroy careers of colleagues they play the same positions with.

But making his appearance on GhanaWeb’s Sports Check program, Nettey said that he does not believe in juju.

According to him even if black magic exists in football, his God will protect him from any form of devilish plans.

“I don’t believe that because he who lives in me is greater than what you are bringing. I have always relied on God. From a kid growing up, I have always believed in God and nothing is going to change. Whatever you bring my way, I have something to encounter you with and you’ll go down”, he said.

Nettey also spoke about the impact Black Stars defender Jonathan Mensah has had on his career.

According to the midfield dynamo, Mensah has influenced his career positively and thus pass for the accolade as his best Ghanaian football in history.

“Jonathan Mensah is my best Ghanaian player of all-time. People influence us not just by playing on the field. It’s not because I have personal ties with him but he is someone I really looked up to. It is not just about football but outside”.

“I was told about Abedi Pele and Osei Kofi but I have watched Jonathan Mensah and Asamoah Gyan and they are all great players but if I’m to pick my best Ghanaian player of all time, I will pick Emmanuel Nettey”.
