I don’t bribe referees - GFA boss

The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Kwesi Nyantakyi has strongly dismissed claims that he bribes referees on behalf of the various national teams in Ghana to qualify for tournaments.

Reports recently surfaced that an amount of $420, 000 was paid as ‘bribe’ to secure a place for Ghana at the global soccer event where Ghana performed poorly and exited in the group stages.

But speaking on Morning Starr Tuesday, the GFA boss completely dismissed the claims saying neither the association nor the government paid bribes for qualification.

According to him, the wrong suggestions denigrates the hard work and achievements of players, culminating who qualified to the tournament purely on merit.

“Let me refute without any provocation that we don’t pay bribes to referees,” Mr. Nyantakyi told Morning Starr host Nii Arday Clegg.

He added: “the teams have qualified on merit purely on merit and not on bribery…any suggestion that we qualified because we pay bribes is unwarranted and must be dismissed with the contempt it deserves.”
