Black Stars midfielder Edwin Gyasi, has said he has no regret choosing Ghana over Netherlands, having made his second appearance for Ghana last Sunday against Egypt.
Speaking in an interview with the GNA Sports, he said, his proudest moment in his football career is scoring for Ghana adding he doesn’t “regret choosing” to play for Ghana over Netherlands.
Having enjoyed a blissful start to his international career, Gyasi insist it is a good decision to choose to play for Ghana over the Netherlands (where he was born and raised).
“I don’t regret choosing Ghana. I speak Twi. My parents are from Ghana and I also don’t feel like I’m Dutch, because I’m a Ghanaian.” He stated.
Gyasi, 26, scored his debut goal for the Stars in the 1-1 drawn game against the Pharaohs of Egypt at the Cape Coast Stadium for the last qualifying game for Russia 2018 world cup on Sunday.
The Norway-based winger restored parity for the Black Stars, three minutes after the Pharaohs had taken the lead through Mahmoud Shikabla.
Gyasi struck from outside the penalty area through a crowded Egyptian defence with his shot deflecting off Ali Gabr to beat goalkeeper Sheriff Ekramy in post for the Egyptians.
The Aalesund midfielder was only making his first full appearance for the national team.
He made his debut appearance as a second half substitute Ghana’s 2018 world cup qualifier game away to Congo Brazzaville in Congo.
He said scoring in his first full Ghana debut was something that will stay with him for long especially how the fans responded to the goal.
"When I scored I could not believe that I have scored. And after scoring I didn’t know where I was running to on the field.
"Scoring for Black Stars is the proudest moment. The crowd exploded and so I enjoyed it,” Gyasi told the GNA Sports from his base in Norway.
He added “it feels great” because everybody was happy for him including Coach Kwesi Appiah and his teammates even at club side.
"He (Appiah) told me he was proud of me and I should keep on with my best. And my teammates at my club text me that they were really happy for me.”
The nimble footed midfielder adding he is proud to be a Ghanaian.
