Dr. Desmond Sarpong insists he has no regrets leaving Asante Kotoko despite suffering several bashing for his decision to quit the club.

The chartered accountant left the club without giving specific reasons having led the club to back-to-back Premier League titles in his three year reign.

Dr. Sarpong managed an era where the club was relatively successful both on and off the field of play.

He managed to line up several sponsorship deals for the club.

Dr. Sarpong’s achilles hill during his three-year reign was the massive sale of players to generate funds for the club.

Most of the clubs' fans were angered by the rising rate of player sales as they felt it weakened the side so much that it wasn’t able to compete well especially in Africa.

Excessive insults from these angered fans are said to be one of the main reasons why Dr. Sarpong decided to leave his post.

But the chartered accountant says he never regrets his decision to lead Kotoko despite suffering intense criticisms for his decision.

“I have had a bit of bashing recently for deciding not to manage Kotoko anymore on the question of principle,” he said during his lecture to the Rotary Club on Tuesday.

“Before I went to join Kotoko three years ago, I hadn’t been to the stadium for over 20 years.

“I was approached to see whether I could bring something different to the game coming from my business background and I accepted the challenge.

“I don’t think I have regretted as it has given me a lot to learn.”
