I enjoyed my time in the Black Stars - Rahim Ayew

Former Ghana international, Rahim Ayew has disclosed that although he had a short stint with Ghana’s senior national team, he cherished every minute of it.

Rahim Ayew, who is the eldest son of Ghanaian football legend Abedi Ayew Pele, made just seven appearances for the Black Stars between 2009 and 2010.

Rahim broke into the Black Stars after a successful campaign with the local Black Stars team, who reached the final of the CHAN tournament in 2009.

He revealed that it was through that tournament that coach Milovan Rajevac decided to hand him a call-up to the Black Stars.

“The coach brought us, the young ones, to replace the senior players when they were out. I was with the Black Stars until I made my debut in Angola for the 2010 AFCON. My time in the national team went from one level to another,” Rahim Ayew said on Osikani TV.

He confessed that his childhood aspiration was simply to be a part of the Black Stars, even if it meant being a bench warmer.

“Even though my time with the Black Stars was short, my dream was just to be in the national team, even if it was going to be just for one game or to be on the bench,” the former Asante Kotoko player said.

“Look at Ghana; we are 35 million, so if you are able to make the squad, then it’s a big achievement. So for me to be part of it, what else can I ask for? It's taken me to places, and I am happy,” he added.

One of the reasons he holds his tenure with the Black Stars in high regard is that his appearances were exclusively at major tournaments.

"I only participated in tournaments; in 2010, we reached the AFCON finals in Angola, and at the World Cup, we advanced to the quarter-finals."
