Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has admitted effectively executing from the spot has been his nemesis throughout his football career.

The 31-year old striker is Ghana’s all-time top scorer with 51 international goals under his belt but spot kicks have been his headache.

Gyan was tongue lashed by Ghanaian football fans when he failed to score a back-to-back penalty opportunities for the Black Stars during the 2010 World Cup and the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations against Uruguay and Zambia respectively.

“I know Ghanaians are disappointed because I have missed a couple of penalty kicks in crucial games, but as a footballer that has been the only challenge in my career,” Gyan told GTV’s Kwabena Yeboah.

The former Sunderland forward said he has to go back to taking penalties as it is the only way to overcome the plague.

“’For now I have decided to go back and take penalties for the Black Stars and break that jinx. I wanted to break that spell in the game against the USA but unfortunately it didn’t happen,” the Baby Jet opened.

The Ghanaian recently signed a fresh two-year contract with Turkish Super League side Kayserispor.
