Former Ghana midfielder Yussif Alhassan Chibsah has ruled out any chance of making a return to the Black Stars. The former Asante Kotoko man says opportunities should be given to younger players.

Having captained Ghana at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, the 32-year-old was part of a five-member standby list for Ghana’s appearance at the 2006 Fifa World Cup in Germany.

However, he’s barely been given a look-in ever since, amid several calls to be handed another opportunity.

“I’m not interested in playing for the Black Stars, even if the coaches invite me,” Chibsah told Gazzetta Ghana.

“I will not honour that invitation because my time has passed.

“There are young and quality players out there that they can call. So the Black Stars coaches should widen their scope in their calls-ups. But for me, it is over.”

But for short spells with Finish side IFK Mariehamn and Alanyaspor of Turkey, Chibsah has been in Sweden since departing Ghana in 2006, playing for the likes of Gefle IF, Djurgardens IF and GAIS.

Earlier, he had spent three years with Kumasi-based King Faisal before joining city rivals Asante Kotoko for a further three years in the local championship.

He was a member of the Porcupine Warriors’ side that lost to Hearts of Oak in the final of the 2004 Caf Confederations Cup.

Following the expiration of his contract with GAIS at the end of last season, Chibsah has joined fellow Swedish side Ljungskile SK on a two-year deal.
