Ghana FA President Kwesi Nyantakyi has revealed that he nearly jubilated when Yaya Toure's name was mentioned as the runner up at the 2015 African Footballer of Year award held in Nigeria.
According to the newly elected WAFU Zone B president, he knew the only player billed to take the award from the Ghana and Swansea City midfielder was Yaya Toure, so when he was mentioned as the runner up, he [Kwesi] knew the winner was Andre.
"From my analysis of the performance of the three olayers in 2015, I knew Ayew could win the award. I only gave Yaya Toure a chance because he won the 2015 Afcon with his country."
"So when Yaya's name was mentioned as the runner up, I nearly jubilated because I knew Ayew had won it. But to my shocking dismay, Aubameyang's name was mentioned as the winner."
The award going to the Dortmund and Gabon striker has compelled many footballers and pundits to raise questions about how CAF disregards her own competitions when it comes to rewarding excellence.
