Black Stars captain, Andre Ayew, has admitted that the team disappointed Ghanaians following their elimination from the Africa Cup of Nations tournament and he will bear the full responsibility as the leader.
Ghana crashed out of the competition at the Round of 16 stage following a 4-5 loss to Tunisia on penalties as both sides were tied at 1-1 after 120 minutes of action.
In an interview with the GNA Sports, the midfielder noted that, although the team worked hard with the aim of winning the ultimate at this year’s continental event, one would not be wrong to say they had failed the entire country.
“Yes, we have failed considering the motive for this tournament, we came into this tournament to win gold but here we are exiting at this stage.
“This is not the time to blame anyone else but I as the leader of the team, I take full responsibility and apologise to Ghanaians on behalf of the team,” he said.
It is the first time in six consecutive competitions since 2008 that the Black Stars have failed to reach the semi-finals of the continental showpiece.
