Former Black Stars midfielder, Rabiu Mohammed, has shared the inspirational role that Ghanaian football legend, Sulley Muntari, played in his life.

Rabiu Mohammed revealed in an interview that he had connections with Sulley Muntari from their days as neighbours in Konongo in the Ashanti Region.

He recalled that he used to carry Muntari’s football boots and wash his training kits after Sulley finished playing.

"I played football here. I came to meet Sulley Muntari, who is like an elder brother to me. I used to carry his boots when he started his career. I was his 'small boy,' so I would wash his jerseys. He started from here, and I joined him. His younger brother is my age mate, so we all used to play together. We had a lot of good players, but not all of them made it," he said.

Having succeeded in his career, Rabiu Mohammed has returned to the town to develop the barren pitch where they played.

According to reports, Rabiu Mohammed is funding the construction of a grass pitch to provide opportunities for other young footballers in the area to realize their talents.

The defensive midfielder made 31 appearances for the Black Stars, without scoring a goal. He was also part of the Ghana Under-20 squad that made history as the first African country to win the FIFA World Youth Championship.

He played for clubs in France, Italy, Spain, and Russia.
