Avram Grant, coach of Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars, has said he has the support of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in spite of an avalanche of criticism unfurled at him by fans in connection with the team’s performance in their last few games.

The team recently played a goalless draw with the Cranes of Uganda in their first game of the 2018 World Cup qualifier. Pundits have been critical of the performance of the team in that game, describing it as poor. A week later, the team also drew one-all with Bafana Bafana of South Africa in a friendly. Ghana’s next World Cup qualifier will be against the Pharaohs of Egypt in Cairo.

The poor performance of the team has resulted in speculation that the GFA is considering terminating the contract of Mr Grant.

However, speaking in an interview with Class Sports’ Kwame Dwomoh-Agyemang, Mr Grant said: “I feel from the GFA a lot of support, and that is what is important to me. And about the media, everybody holds his own opinion, and I know after bad results everybody speaks a lot of things.

“Everybody knows what happened before the game against Rwanda and everybody knows what happened now: when players have to buy their own tickets. It’s not professional, and things on the pitch are not professional. People with sense in their head will know that preparation is very important and even the coach of Uganda said this.”
