Legendary Ashgold and Togolese goalkeeper, Nibombe Wake, has extolled the virtues of Sir Sam Jonah as a nobleman who is a staunch football fan.

In a video shared by Sannie Daara and sighted by GhanaWeb, Nibombe Wake, who was a victim of the shooting of the Togolese national team at the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations, made some positive remarks about Sir Sam Jonah, who once was the president of Ashgold.

In the video, Nibombe Wake also made a passionate appeal to the general public to assist him in reinitiating contact with Sir Sam Jonah.

Wake noted that he has been making efforts to see Sir Sam Jonah and even visited Accra twice in the hopes of meeting him, but he was unable to do so.

He hopes that his latest move, which is a video released via social media, will catch the attention of Sir Sam Jonah and enable him to meet the respected Ghanaian businessman.

"I'd like to send a message to my president, Sir Sam Jonah. When I was playing for Ashgold, he was our president. I spent four years at Ashgold, and I knew Sam Jonah as a good man who loved football. He was very supportive of us when I was playing at Ashgold, and he loves football," he said.

Nibombe Wake also opened up about how he ended up in his current predicament, disclosing that he was a victim of the shooting of the Togolese national team during the 2010 AFCON.

He explained that the situation has left him impoverished and that he is struggling to cover his medical expenses.

"I went to play in Angola and was shot in my leg by rebels, and it has become a problem for me. Getting money for the hospital to go to a hospital has become problematic for me. I have been to Accra twice but didn't get the chance to meet Sir Sam Jonah.

"I'd like to see him. I'm not going to beg him for money, but I'm sure he will find a way to help me because he is a good man. If I see him, I know God will make him help me. I'm calling on God to make me see Sir Sam Jonah. He is a good man who really likes football," he said.

Described by coach Opeele as the best goalkeeper in Ghana Premier League history, Nibombe Wake spent more than four years at Ashgold and was instrumental in their run in the 1997 CAF Champions League, where they reached the finals. He also won multiple league titles with the Miners.
