Former Ghanaian footballer Albert Adomah has revealed that his call-up to the Black Stars came purely on merit, driven by his consistent performances at club level.

In a candid interview on 3Sports, Adomah recalled how his goal-scoring and creative form for Bristol City and later Middlesbrough made it impossible for the Ghana Football Association to overlook him.

"I was top scorer for Middlesbrough, and I was scoring goals for Bristol City and creating chances. So it's only right that they had to call me on merit," the veteran winger stated.

Adomah acknowledged that his selection raised eyebrows initially. "When I got into the national team, there was a bit of noise in the background. 'Why are you selecting Albert Adomah?'" he said.

However, he pointed to his durability as proof of his worth.

"I played the most games for my club. I always was one that played most games. In all the call-ups, there are big players, but I actually played more games than anyone in the national team."

The former Aston Villa and QPR man also shared a memorable detail from his AFCON experience: wearing the iconic number 10 jersey. With Andre Ayew injured, Adomah inherited the shirt famously worn by Abedi Pele.

"I said it's just a number, and I'll take it. It was a proud moment representing the national team," he said.

Adomah started all group stage matches at the tournament but was left on the bench for the quarter-final. Despite that disappointment, he remains proud of his Ghana career, built not on reputation but on hard-earned merit.
