Ghana striker Jordan Ayew admits he did not find success at French Ligue 1 side Olympique Marseille, where he began his professional career in 2009.
The Villa striker claims he has been successful at every club he has represented with the exception of Les Phoceens, where he was tagged ‘bad boy’.
The 24-year-old was later loaned out to Sochaux before joining Lorient on a permanent basis in 2014, after severing his ties with Stade Velodrome, where he was widely regarded as a ‘disrespectful player’.
However, his 12 league goals at Lorient last season earned him a move to English Premier League side Aston Villa last August.
“Everywhere I have played, I’ve succeeded apart from Marseille,” Ayew told RMC. “I do not regret it because I believe a lot in destiny. Today, I’m happy. What happened at Marseille is over. I do not think I'm a bad boy and I have the qualities.
“In England, I arrived and nobody knew me but it was better that way. My whole family is happy,” he added.
Ayew claimed a crucial away point for Villa on Saturday, after his 61st minute volley cancelled out Fabricio Coloccini’s opener for the hosts Newcastle United.
Villa are without a win since August when they defeated Bournemouth on opening day.
Ayew is now the club’s top scorer with four goals in 13 appearances, one more than Benin international Rudy Gestede.
He has been capped 31 times for Ghana since 2010, scoring 11 goals in the process.
