The former Disciplinary Committee chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Prosper Harrison Addo has threatened to write to FIFA if the Normalisation Committee allows the Referees Association of Ghana (RAG) to appoint referees for its upcoming specially-organized competition.
The Normalisation Committee was brought in as an interim body to reform football in the country after the nation’s football governing body was dissolved by government in the wake of the Anas Number 12 exposè.
Speaking on Happy FM’s ‘Anopa Bosuo Sports’ on a special initiative by Star Ghana and Happy FM to review the status of the FA and make recommendations to the Normalisation Committee, lawyer Prosper Harrison Addo warned the NC not to allow RAG to appoint referees to take charge of matches in the upcoming special competition to be played in January.
“The Normalisation Committee should not be engaging RAG. Appointment of referees is the sole responsibility of the GFA referees Committee and not RAG. If things are not done right, I will petition FIFA personally on this issue because RAG is not a part of the GFA and cannot appoint referees for matches,” he said.
He advised the Normalisation Committee to immediately set up a GFA Referees Appointment Committee.
“The Normalisation Committee must setup a Referees Appointment Committee immediately because without them, we can’t play any competition. I will lead a personal crusade and write to FIFA if things are not done properly”.
The Normalisation Committee announced that a new competition will be introduced in January 2019 for active clubs to play. This is after the absence of active football and the truncation of the league for the past six months.
