Former Hearts of Oak midfielder and Black Stars teammate of Stephen Appiah, Anthony Annan has revealed that if he could stop Stephen Appiah from retiring, he would have done that since the inspiration of Appiah on the field is second to none.

Anthony Annan, who now plies his trade in Finland, has disclosed that Stephen Appiah’s leadership qualities shall always be missed as he was able to handle them in camp no matter what happens and that he would have loved to see Appiah still playing.

Stephen Appiah finally bid farewell to the game of football after an illustrious professional career, crowning it with a testimonial game played on June 27, 2015 to officially announce his retirement but the HJK Helsinki midfielder insists he would not have allowed Appiah to retire if he had his way.

In an interview with Sportscrusader.com, Anthony Annan said, “It is true that anything that has a beginning has an end. Yes, Appiah has done well for Ghana, his clubs and for himself but I think there is still life in him. At least his experience will be missed. So if I could stop him from retiring, Appiah wouldn’t have retired”.

“My affection for the former captain is so huge that I am saddened by his decision to retire from the game. He will always miss football and football will miss him”, Annan added.
