IPS beat GIL 2-1

Mon, 25 Mar 2002 Source: --

THE indomitable Ghana Institute of Languages (GIL) soccer team made a fruitless adventure against the Institute of Professional Studies (IPS) last Friday when they were defeated 2-1 in a ceremonial match played at the Accra Stadium.

The two professional institutions showed, their prowess in soccer on the occasion of the SRC Week celebrations of the GIL.

The match, watched by a sizeable crowd, saw GIL pressurising their opponents in the early stages of the first half till the 30th minute when inside left, Collins Adjei Boadu snatched the leader much against the run of play.

However, that did not deter the players of GIL who combined effectively with playmaker, Baba Armando, who was at his dribbling best.

The equaliser came when centre forward and skipper of the side, Yeboah, blasted home a powerful shot after receiving a neat pass from Armando.

Barely five minutes later, Nene Ayiku, who was playing on top of the IPS attack, got the match winner. GIL went on the rampage afterwards but the good defensive play of their opponents denied them any goal.

The balanced second half witnessed some wonderful saves from the GIL goalkeeper. After the match, the GIL coach and his team congratulated their opponents on their victory but indicated their quest for revenge next time around.
