Ghana target Inaki Williams made his senior Spain bow on Sunday, almost bringing to an end months of intense speculations about his international future.
The 21-year-old was a second-half substitute at the AFG Arena in St. Gallen, coming on for Marco Asensio on 60 minutes, as Vicente del Bosque’s side recorded a 3-1 triumph over Bosnia and Herzegovina in a Euro 2016 warm-up fixture.
Nolito scored twice for La Roja in addition to Pedro’s effort, while Emir Spahic fetched Bosnia’s consolation.
Williams is, however, not in Spain’s final squad for the Euros, his name being included on the standby list.
Born to a Ghanaian father and a Liberian mother in Basque, Spain, the striker is eligible to represent any of the three countries at senior level. He has already represented Spain at under-21 level.
Ghana FA president Kwesi Nyantakyi and Black Stars coach Avram Grant have both confirmed the country’s interest in the youngster.
Even with Sunday’s appearance, Williams is still eligible to switch international allegiance as the game did not constitute a competitive match.
Per Fifa’s law on player eligibility, only a competitive game at senior level can prevent a player from switching international allegiance.
