The Chairman of the Ghana Hockey Association (GHA), Oko-Nikoi Dzani, led a strong team of some of the Executive members of the GHA and three clubs from the Greater Accra Hockey league to inaugurate the Volta Regional Hockey Association in Ho on Saturday November 24 2007. A twelve member interim executive made up of representatives from various stakeholder institutions and chaired by former national goalie and Development Consultant, S. K. Awunyo-Akaba, was also officially accorded recognition and charged with the responsibility of overseeing the development of the sport in the Region.
