Indiscipline among youth retrogresses talent-hunt -Adusei

Kumasi, May 14, GNA - Mr Anthony K. Adusei, Ashanti Regional Sports Development Officer has advised the youth especially student-athletes to exhibit a high sense of discipline at all levels of sporting activities to facilitate efforts at unearthing sports talents. He said that almost every discipline of sports has its own rules and regulations, adding that, "It takes only a disciplined youth to abide by these principles to become a star".

Mr Adusei was speaking at a ceremony to launch Kumasi's participation at the International Children's Games slated for Coventry in the United Kingdom (UK) in July this year in Kumasi on Friday. Kumasi will represent Ghana at the games for the second consecutive time against the backdrop of its brilliant performance in last year's games in the United States of America (USA).

A 40-member contingent made up of student-athletes between the ages of 12 and 15 and officials are expected to participate in the Games in football, athletics, lawn tennis and table tennis under the auspices of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) in collaboration with the National Sports Council (NSC).

Mr Adusei was optimistic that if stakeholders in education stepped up their efforts in curbing indiscipline among the youth, the nation will reclaim its reputation of tapping potential athletes at the basic level and from the academia.

Mr Sampson Kwaku Boafo, Ashanti Regional Minister and the acting Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive in a speech read on his behalf admonished the participants to make the nation proud by sweeping enough laurels in their respective disciplines during the games.

He said that government was committed to creating opportunities for the youth to be involved in inter-cultural youth exchange programmes as a means of enhancing sports development.
