Member of Parliament for South Tongu, Kobena Mensah Woyome has passed his verdict on the Isaac Asiamah-led Sports Ministry, giving the institution a low-rating for how it has performed since 2017.
In an interview with Atinka FM, Kobe Woyome who is also a member of Parliament’s Sports Committee argued that with the resource allocated to the Ministry, he expected more from them.
He declined to go into the specifics but said that the performance of the ministry in the last three years has been underwhelming.
According to him, Isaac Asiamah was vocal in opposition thus he had big expectations of him.
“I don’t want to put statistics on it but his performance is far from expected. We’ve all chastised the various ministers who have come before us. We have always drawn the attention of the ministers that have been in the saddle. Having assumed the position, he would have been one without blemish but I think it's below expectations”.
Woyome also suggested the gains made by the ministry was due to good policies implemented by the erstwhile Mahama administration.
He said that the ministry is benefitting from the innovations of the previous government.
“Asiamah is a lucky minister. He came to meet money because the former government ensured that the NYA will have 5% of the Common Fund for youth development and all that and that’s where the money gets to the ministry. Because it's about youth and sports is also undertaking by the youth all the multipurpose centres being built across the regions is funded by the NYA”, he said
