Paul Dogboe, the father and trainer of WBO Super Bantamweight Champion Isaac Dogboe takes his turn on Sports Check with Ghanaweb Sports Editor, Daniel Oduro.

In a riveting 23 minutes interview, Paul Dogboe bares it all in terms of the long road he has had to take and the many challenges and sacrifices he has endured in order to nurture his son to become a World Champion who is now feared and revered in equal measure.

Paul Dogboe who gave up his own career as a military personnel in order to train his son also reveals his determination to give Isaac Dogboe the best boxing opportunities in life has cost him a fortune and crippled him financially. He is however hopeful that those sacrifices will bear fruits in the coming years.

For a man who thought his son was a gifted footballer during his formative years, it had to take some convincing to allow his son switch careers because the pursuit of a footballing career was becoming a distant dream.

Paul Dogboe also opens up on the favour of the supernatural being (God) in the life of his son, and how he once upon a time listened to a Prophet of God who told him to discourage his son from pursuing a career in boxing.

And oh, it will also surprise you to know that prominent personalities like former President Rawlings and the sitting President Nana Akufo Addo have had to intervene to support Dogboe’s career at one point or the other.

Recently, Paul Dogboe agreed to step aside for a new trainer to take Isaac Dogboe to the next level but his son won’t allow him because Isaac believes he and his dad are a match made in heaven.

Later this weekend, Isaac Dogboe will step into the ring once again in an attempt to defend his WBO Super Bantamweight title he won earlier this year.

The 23-year-old Isaac Dogboe will take on Japanese Hidenori Otake in the United States on Saturday, August 25 and one man who will be by his corner is his father/trainer, Paul Dogboe.
