Ghana’s Isaac Quartey has sworn to claim the vacant Commonwealth Light welterweight belt when he fights former WBU Lightweight, former WBU Super Lightweight, former Commonwealth Lightweight champ Lee McAllister at the Beach Ballroom, Aberdeen, Scotland, United Kingdom on June 11.

Isaac Quartey popularly called Chorkor Dynamite, says not even the expected full house backing home favourite McAllister who relinquished the Commonwealth Lightweight title in February this year to fight for and win the vacant IBO International Light welterweight title, will hinder him from winning the belt he expects to push his bid for a shot at becoming a world champion.

“I’m beating him, definitely, I’m ready for everything. It does not matter how big the home support will be, I will cope. That’s what everybody is saying but the determination I have of becoming a future world champion, I don’t think the time and venue matters,” Isaac Quartey told * SportsInGhana.com* when we caught up with him at the Attoh Quarshie Gym in Accra where he is training for what is easily the biggest fight of his career.

He flies out of the country to the UK a week to fight night, but Quartey who will fight for the first time outside Ghana, says his trip for the bout will be on behalf of the nation so every Ghanaian must get behind him just now to help him fly high the flag of Ghana boxing.

“All Ghanaians must pray for me because when I win then Ghana wins so I need the prayers and support of everybody and I promise to win for us all,” the Ghanaian has urged.

The fight against the vastly experienced McAllister, 32-2 (8KOs), looks a daunting one, at least on paper, for Isaac Quartey (7-6-1, 1 KO) but Kwaku Adofo, Manager of the Ghanaian believes he has seen enough of his boxer in training to repose a massive dose of confidence in The Chorkor Dynamite to bring home the Commonwealth belt.

“I have 100% hope that Isaac will win because the opponent has beaten 3 Ghanaians already and it won’t happen for a 4th time. Now he faces the Dynamite and he will find it very different,” Mr. Adofo said.

Yes, 28 year old McAllister has already accounted for Ben Odamtey, Godfred Sowah and Sam Amoako, all compatriots of Isaac Quartey, during his career. Isaac Quartey however, can break the duck, so says the man who is training the Ghanaian boxer for the June 11 showdown.

“We have trained very well and we are still working hard, this is an opportunity of a lifetime so we will give it our all. I believe our all should be good to beat this guy no matter the record, experience or what he has done before. This is our time and we’re leaving nothing to chance,” said Francis Amankwaa, trainer of Isaac Quartey.
