Former Chelsea coach Graham Potter believes that Antoine Semenyo’s rise from the lower tiers of English football to the Premier League is a story that young players will look at and be inspired by.
Graham Potter is in awe of the rise of the Ghanaian footballer and hailed him during the Monday Night Football show on Sky Sports.
Potter holds that Semenyo showed great determination and tenacity to develop from the lower leagues in English football to the top of the pyramid.
“It’s a great story for any player. It’s really nice to hear about the path he has been on. He’s had his ups and downs and been in the lower leagues. He just kept going, and it’s a great story for any young player.
“Sometimes the patience for most is very thin, but he has done well. He obviously has the talent, but the trickiest thing is finding the right pathway. Everyone’s pathway is different, but he has taken it well, and now he has arrived in the Premier League,” he said on Sky Sports.
His comments were in reaction to Semenyo’s impressive showing for Bournemouth in their 3-1 win over Southampton.
The 24-year-old scored a brilliant goal to seal the lead for Bournemouth, who have now jumped to 11th in the Premier League.
Speaking after the game, Semenyo said that he caught the defenders of Southampton off-guard as they were not expecting him to strike from that angle.
“Just tried to create some space and shoot really, and I got enough space, hit it (the ball) hard and low, and it just trickled into the bottom corner, so I’m happy. I caught the defenders off guard with a chop and, like I said, just wanted to create space and get the shot away, and I did, and it went in.”
