Black Stars coach, Otto Addo, has refused to make an explicit comment on the illegal mining menace that has bedevilled the country.

Hundreds of Ghanaians have been protesting the galamsey situation in the country, with the government under huge pressure to declare a state of emergency in the mining areas.

The topic came up during Otto Addo’s press conference for the announcement of Ghana’s team for the games against Sudan, and Otto Addo pleaded for time to make a categorical statement on it.

Despite his admission that the galamsey menace is a major problem, he fell short of joining the campaign, reasoning that he does not want to distract attention from the game.

He, however, indicated that the team will be open to questions about the crusade against illegal mining after the doubleheader against Sudan.

“It is a very serious problem, but we have to focus on our jobs. There are a lot of things which could distract us. I have been questioning myself about what I could have done better. Our focus now is Sudan, and afterwards, we can talk about any other topic,” he said.

The Black Stars will play Sudan at the Accra Sports Stadium on October 10, 2024.

Ghana occupy the third position with one point in Group F of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers after two matches.
