Head coach of the Black Stars, Otto Addo, has explained his decision to invite only one player from the Ghana Premier League for the games against Angola and Niger.
The Ghana coach named a 23-man squad for the upcoming matches in September, with only Fredrick Asare from the domestic topflight league. The Asante Kotoko shot-stopper joins Lawrence Ati-Zigi and Jojo Wollacott in the goalkeeping department.
According to Addo, it does not matter which league a player is in; the most important thing is inviting those who can comprehend his system.
"I think it is not easy. I said last time we will watch more closely the Ghanaian Premier League. It's very difficult, and I know if I leave a player out, there will be questions," he said.
"But at the moment, for me, it is not about the Ghana Premier League, French Ligue 1, the EPL, or the Bundesliga. It is about the players, and we need the best players to qualify for the World Cup. For me, I don't care; if I am convinced, I will call you," he added.
Ghana will host Angola on September 5 before engaging Niger four days later.
