William Klutse, former player of the Black Stars and coach of Inter Allies Football Club, has said it is too early to talk about the future of the present coach of the Black Stars James Kwasi Appiah, after the team’s failure to advance to the finals of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.
Speaking in an interview, coach Klutse said, considering the time Kwasi Appiah took over the reins of the team, it will be a hasty move to dispense off his services at this stage since team building is a process.
“This is a coach who took over the team somewhere in the middle of 2012 and it will be unfair to blame him for the failure of the team. It was obvious he was under pressure to deliver and having reached this far, I think he should be allowed more time.
“We cannot continue to sack coaches all the time. We should give our coach enough time to build the national team,” he noted.
Commenting on the performance of the team, he noted that, the Black Stars lacked aggression in their approach to the game.
“They were not hungry for success. Our players were also not physically fit as the Burkinabe’s capitalized on this to out play us,” he indicated.
According to the member 1978 Cup winning squad, the Black Stars lost the game within the 90 minutes and were only lucky to have pushed the game to extra time.
He said it was clear the game was not for the Black Stars and the northern neighbours of Ghana deserved to win the game.
Coach Klutse described the current make up of the Black Stars as a team that can be built for the future.
“We have unearthed a number of young players and they can be developed for future international assignments.
The Black Stars lost on penalties by 3-2 to Burkina Faso on Wednesday in the semi finals of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.
