Hearts star Laryea Kingston was today celebrating being named in Ghana's World Cup squad - and thanked boss Jim Jefferies for keeping his South African dream alive.

The midfielder had feared for his chances of facing Germany, Australia and Serbia this summer after falling out of favour under former Tynecastle boss Csaba Laszlo.

However, following JJ's arrival in Gorgie four months ago, the 29-year-old was restored to the first team and has responded with some impressive displays.

Having been suspended for the tournament in Germany four years ago, he's relishing the prospect of finally making it to the World Cup with the Black Stars and he told Hearts News it would not have been possible without JJ's help.

"Obviously I am very happy to see my name included and I have to give all my credit to Jim Jefferies," he said.

"This is the biggest tournament for my country and it would be a dream to play in South Africa. I am fit and have been enjoying my football at Hearts under Jim. Without Jim's help I think my chances of being in South Africa with the national team would have been under threat. But I am very happy today."

Coach Milovan Rajevac has named 30 players in his provisional squad, with the final list being announced at the start of June.

"Not only will I be playing for my country in South Africa, I will be representing Hearts as well," he added.

"Every Hearts fan who sees me play for Ghana this summer on the TV should know I am representing their club as well."

Of more immediate concern for the playmaker is Sunday's visit of Celtic to Tynecastle.

"It has been a tough season for everyone but hopefully we can go out on a high with a good result against Celtic on Sunday," he said.

"Hopefully I will then have some more big games to look forward to in the summer."

Laryea will meet up with his international team-mates at a training camp in France in just over two weeks' time prior to the confirmation of the final squad.
