Ghanaian international James Kotei has denied stating in an interview that the South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) lacks quality.

The former Liberty Professionals man spent 6 months with Kaiser Chiefs but subsequently moved on after failing to secure a place in the team.

In the past week, stories carried by several portals quoted the midfielder for saying that: “In South Africa, the coverage of their league is big but not it’s quality.”

To give clarification following attacks by PSL followers, James Kotei has explained that he never said that the PSL lacks quality.

In an interview with Siya crew, the 26-year-old said: “I would like to address the issue that I said South African league is not a quality league but the camera league. That is not true.

Kotei added, “A Tanzanian television station called me and I was making reference to their league that it’s a good league because at times people look down on them, and that I had been in South Africa and what I saw is that their branding and coverage is super. In Tanzania it’s not easy.

“In South Africa they play normal football the way it is played in the world. That was my explanation to them. South African league and the Egyptian league are recognized big time. So, how can I belittle the league”.

James Kotoko is now with Belarusian Premier League club Salvia Mozyr but is however yet to make an appearance in the Vysheyshaya Liga 2020.
