Egyptian giants Al Ahly have confirmed the signing of former Ghana youth international John Antwi.

The 22-year-old striker completed a four-year deal with the eight-time Caf Champions League winners on Monday, according to a statement on their official website.

Antwi achieved success with Ahly's rivals Ismaily, where he spent two seasons, between 2013 and 2015, scoring 28 goals in 47 appearances and winning the top scorer award of the Egyptian elite division in the 2013-2014 season.

“Antwi signed a four-year contract after $1 million was paid to Saudi Arabian club Al-Shabab,” Ahly said.

Al-Shabab, who signed Antwi from Ismaily last February for $2.2 million, announced last week that they had reached an agreement with Ahly to buy the remainder of the player’s contract.

“Ahly are the biggest team in Africa with a glorious history of achievements. Any player can't say no to a big club like Ahly,” Antwi told Al-Nahar TV.

He is expected to form a great partnership up front with skipper Emad Moteab and Nagy Ahmed Gedo to help bring the Club of the Century back to continental limelight.

The striker formerly plied his trade at Ghanaian teams Sekondi Eleven Wise and side Dreams FC.
