Ghana has been named hosts of the second edition of the World Chess for Peace Tournament scheduled for 27-30 November, 2012.

Planet Three Peace Programme (P3PP), a civil society group was over the weekend awarded the franchise to host the global tournament that will see renowned chess players competing for honours.

The franchise, symbolized by a chess pawn has been presented to Executive Director of P3PP, Mohamed Affum, by Frances Hagan, a representative of Mon Roi Incorporated of Canada, organizers of the tournament.

Affum said his outfit was proud to be the first civil society in Africa to be given the nod to host an international chess for peace.

He said this opportunity would serve a platform to promote peace among the youth in Ghana and across the continent and the world.

“We (P3PP) are ready to host the rest of the world in this historic event in collaboration with the Ghana Chess Association, Ghana United Nations Association, National Sports Authority, Ministry of Youth and Sports.”
