Ghana defender Jonathan Mensah has been handed a three-game suspension for unsporting behavior in Evian TG’s 2-1 away loss at Nantes, Dailysoccerghana.com can confirm.
The 24-year-old was handed the ban for his unacceptable gesture towards referee Bartolomeu Varela in the 36th-minute of the French Ligue 1 game on March 14.
The suspension takes effect from Tuesday April 14, meaning Mensah could play in Evian TG’s home game against Lille on Sunday if he is declared fit.
According to the LFP Disciplinary Committee’s ruling, the ex-Free State Stars centre-back, who will be signing autographs at the Parc des Sports d’Annecy on Sunday, will miss Evian TG’s next three games against Guingamp, Bastia and Olympique Lyon.
Mensah has been out of action for Evian TG since suffering an injury in Ghana’s 2-1 loss to Senegal in a friendly match in Le Havre on March 28.
