Jonathan Mensah hopeful of summer transfer

Jonathan Mensah is hopeful that he can find a new club this summer, despite being banned from football for four months.

The centre-back’s contract at Evian Thonon Gaillard expires next summer, and any club tempted to move for the stopper could be set to acquire a bargain.

However, anyone who takes him on will be unable to use him until several months into the new campaign, following his ban from football. The player was suspended by the Court of Arbitration after irregularities emerged in his 2011 transfer to Les Roses.

The 24-year-old left Udinese four years ago to sign for the Savoyards, but was still under contract with the Bianconeri at the time of the switch.

He remains hopeful that his sanction will not impede a potential move.

“There might be a possibility that I might move to a different club,” he began, speaking to Metro TV.

Jomens also intimated that there were plans in the pipeline: “I want to progress in my career and we are working on something so hopefully things will go well.”

He also insisted that his ban will not affect a potentially major career move, “I don’t think this situation will hamper any move,” he continued, “because like I said, teams know what I can do.”

Mensah had been linked with a move to Scottish giants Celtic, but despite a source close to the player insisting that the Buoys were not dissuaded by his ban, there has been no movement.

Indeed, the Hoops have already signed Manchester City defender Dedryck Boyata—as a replacement for the departing Jason Denayer—and it remains to be seen whether they would still have a need for the Black Star.

The Daily Record have reported that Celtic no longer have any plans to recruit the international.
