Some journalists have expressed concern about the pronouncements of the President of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana, Ebo Quansah on the $25,000 received by the Senior National Football Team, the Black Stars from the Governor of River State in Nigeria.
Mr. Quansah is among a few who have justified the receipt of the money and the silence of the eight sports writers who failed to report on the generosity of the Nigerians. Unhappy journalists told JOY-FM that the defence put up by Mr. Quansah was unfortunate and asked the Ghana Journalists Association to come out with a statement on his comments.
The journalists received $100 each out of the amount and according to Mr. Quansah the $25,000 dollar gift was not worthy of news coverage. The SWAG President who is also the Editor of the 'Public Agenda' newspaper has also dismissed attempts to blame the GFA Chairman for wrong judgement in accepting the money.
The action of especially the journalists has received public condemnation since the incident was made public in Ghana by JOY-FM. Most football fans are of the view that the money should not have been accepted because of the rumours that preceded the said world cup qualifying game, which was won by Nigeria. The, GJA says it will institute further inquiries into the case.
