Accra, Ghana - Three journalists covering the African Cup of Nations being held in Ghana were late Wednesday attacked and robbed of personal belongings. Mikael Blond of the Danish football magazine Tipsbladet and two other journalists were walking to their hotel in the Accra suburb of Tantra Hills after having supper at a nearby hotel.
"Suddenly a taxi stopped and five men jumped out and started screaming at us and told us to give them our phones and money. They also started hitting us," said Blond.
He said that they stole two mobile phones, a wallet with cash and credit cards, as well as a camera before jumping back in the car and leaving.
"Luckily, we suffered no injuries, just some bruising, a fat lip and a few scratches," he said.
The attack has been reported to the police and the tournament organizers.
