Boamah, Others Lose Jobs Over Gabros' Victory
The Coaching crew of Julius Berger led by Philip Boamah was fired at Enugu, Sunday after the defeat of the Lagos team by Gabros FC of Nnewi in a Week four league match. It was Berger's third defeat in the four week old League where they have a paltry one point in four matches.
Boamah was earlier rumoured sacked after visiting Jasper United of Onitsha held Berger to a scoreless draw in Abeokuta two weeks ago, but at a plea for leniency, he was given a tall order to secure after least a draw in Enugu or be fired and he failed.
Chief Daniel Idamah, Berger's Chairman who disclosed this exclusively to THISDAYSports in Enugu shortly after the match, said Berger's management could no longer bear the series of poor records of the coaching crew.
He said at the discovery that the crew had a problem, it was given some time to make amends and improve the fortunes of the team, but it unfortunately failed.
The crew which comprised Boamah, his assistant Zakare John and the team's trainer Darlington Boye, was told at Enugu to leave Berger's camp after a marathon meeting with Idama at Zodiac Hotel where he lodged.
Part of Boamah's sins, Idama said, was his inability to secure good players from Ghana for the team's CAF Champions League after spending over two weeks in the country scouting.
Idama, though confirmed that he was in possession of Coach Tony Ukachu's curriculum vitae, he however said that the coach had not been considered for Berger's job as speculated.
He said he was on the trail of Coach Christian Chukwu who was to handle Berger even before the advent of Boamah and his assistants, but that the former Eagles' skipper settled for Kenyan offer instead.
"I have called his home several times and I understand that he had gone back to Kenya to sort-out his contract with the country's Football Association," he said.
In the interim, Idama said, Berger's Manager Taiwo Ogunjobi will oversee the team's affairs thenceforth until a substantive coach is hired.
