Ghana midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah is the front-runner to be crowned 2012 Sports Writers Association of Ghana Player of the Year at a ceremony on Saturday. The Juventus ace vies for the coveted award with international teammates Andre Ayew and Emmanuel Clottey.
Asamoah’s sterling displays for the Serie A side, which resulted in the team winning the title for the second consecutive time. He was in his first season after making a switch from fellow Serie A contenders Udinese.
Ayew, 23, made strides with Olympique Marseille under the year in review and Clottey grabbed the headlines after his 12 goals for Berekum Chelsea in the 2012 CAF Champions League.
Hearts of Oak captain Mahatma Otoo is the leading contender for Premiership Player of the Year.
He single-handedly led the capital club to fifth place and ended the season as top scorer with 20 goals.
Otoo’s competitors are Asante Kotoko midfielder Michael Akuffu and Amidaus Professionals captain Yahaya Mohammed.
Asante Kotoko coach Mas-Ud Dramani will be named Coach of the Year after guiding the Black Maidens to win a historic bronze at 2012 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
His skipper at the tournament Priscilla Okyere will be named Female Footballer of the Year.
Berekum Chelsea President Emmanuel Kyeremeh will also be honoured. The 38th edition of the MTN SWAG Awards will be held at the Banquet Hall of the State House in Accra.
