Karela Utd CEO Elloeny Amande calls for stakeholders meeting to decide on resumption of football

C.E.O. of Ghana Premier League side, Karela United, Elloeny Amande has expressed concern about football stakeholders being kept in the dark about the future of the suspended Ghana football season.

The Ghana FA resolved to suspend all football competitions in line with government directives to ban social gatherings due to the CoronaVirus outbreak in the country.

The situation is similar to what is happening globally as the disease continues to plague humanity and decimate the sporting sector.

Some football leagues have already started taking decisions about their suspended competitions.

In the Netherlands, the 2019-20 season has been scrapped, while the German Bundesliga have set a tentative date of May 9 for a return to playing (albeit behind closed doors). There are similar echoings in Italy and the UK.

However, Elloeny Amande is a tad worried there is a dead silence on the matter here in the country.

He believes the time is ripe for football stakeholders to engage the GFA to deliberate on the best decision to take concerning the suspended 2019-20 season with focus on the 2020-21 football season as well.

He told TV3 Sports, “I think the big consideration for the Dutch was, its September 1st that they can return to playing so there’s no point, they had to cancel the league (because ) their hands were tied”

“I’ve seen the Germans also give a tentative restart date of May 9, but obviously they are also looking to their government for direction on when they can actually do this”

But if you look at the measures that the Germans are proposing to put in place ahead of the restart of the Bundesliga, this includes massive amount of funds to government to help with mass testing, they are going to play without fans and all of the protocols that they are putting in place”

“If you bring it into the Ghanaian context, I don’t think that we have the wherewithal be it financial and logistics to be able to go back to playing football anytime before the next calendar date which is September-October when the leagues are supposed to officially resume for the 2020-21 season”

“So in the light of all of this, I think its about time that club owners and leaders got together and had a conversation with the federation about our league and when we really are going to be able to do it because the uncertainty at the moment isn’t helping”.
