Bata, Feb. 7, GNA - Ghana Black Stars chance of ending the country's wait for a Nations Cup trophy in three decades will face a stiff test from Zambia when both teams clash in a semi final duel on Wednesday.
According to Christopher Katongo, Captain of the Chipolopolos, Ghana's pedigree and weight of expectation by the pundits will mean pressure on the Stars rather than Zambia.
He told GNA Sports in Bata that “the pressure will be on Ghana because they are a big name. But we are not afraid because we have what it takes to beat them.
“'This is our time to get the recognition that comes with playing big teams. We understand that if you cannot be on top, then you have to beat those on top and we are very ready to do that.
“Playing Ghana is a very good challenge for us and that is what we like. Their biggest strength is their flair, which is very similar to our style. They can be fast too; just like us.”
Zambia is chasing a first Nations Cup glory while Ghana chases a fifth in three decades. Ghana unlike the Chipolopolos has enjoyed no rest period after their torrid 120 minutes, 2-1 win over Tunisia and having to travel from Gabon to Equatorial Guinea after flight delay to meet Zambia who has played thrice in Bata.
Katongo, however, insist getting a days rest more than Ghana by no means give them an extra edge. “A day's rest does not make any difference. What will matter on the pitch is the psychological strength and the strategy”. Zambia is chasing a first Nations Cup glory while Ghana chases a fifth in three decades.
