Danish-born Ghanaian winger Kelvin Mensah returned from a long injury layoff to power Brondby IF to a 2-0 victory over Vendsyssel in the Danish Cup on Thursday night.

It was refreshing news for the Brondby IF supporters who had travelled to the Nord Energi Arena to watch their beloved club take on Vendsyssel following reports that Mensah, who last featured for the club on the final day of the 2017/18 campaign in the 1-1 stalemate with Aalborg, will be making his season bow.

The 27-year-old suffered a horrific knee injury during the side's pre-season training which ruled him out from the first half of the season.

He, however, made his maiden competitive appearance for the team on Thursday after he was named in the starting line-up against Vendsyssel in the Danish Cup.

Mensah announced his comeback to Brondby IF fans after notching up the first goal of the match with a smart finish in the 29th minute after connecting to Mikael Uhre's defense-splitting pass.

Polish forward Kamil Wilczek sealed the win for Martin Retov's side with a superb strike at the death of the match.

Mensah was given a standing ovation by the travelling fans after he was replaced with Jens Gammelby in the 76th minute of the game.

He netted two goals in his 18 appearances for Brondby IF last term.
