Head Coach of Premier League Champions Aduana Stars, Kenichi Yatsuhashi has explained reasons behind his decision to change the Captain at the club.
Kenichi Yatsuhashi handed over the Captaincy of the club to Yahaya Mohammed just after his first competitive game since taking charge at the Dormaa based club.
The Japanese trainer took over the captaincy role from goalkeeper Joseph Addo and handed it to the striker, who will be deputized by former Medeama defender Paul Aidoo.
According to the gaffer, the decision is based on Yahama Mohammed's strong winning mentality in games and added the change will allow Joseph Addo to concentrate on his goalkeeping duties.
"The Coach can't be on the pitch during match days and I need a captain who can set the example, especially a winning mentality so I observed the players during the first match and the training sessions to find who possessed the best winning mentality in out team and that was the captain I selected," he told reporters.
The decision is expected to cause friction in camp, with many of the players believed to be dissatisfied with the trainers decision.
However, Kenichi Yatsuhashi says he has explained the changes to the goalkeeper and his former deputy Elvis Opoku and the rest of the players.
"I told him personally my decision is to let him focus more on goalkeeping and he is doing that tremendously. Today, during training he was making excellent saves and excellent passes and excellent leadership at the back so his improvement was enhanced because of the changes in Captaincy," he said.
"Elvis is very very serious now, even though he cannot play the next match because of two yellow accumulation. He is working hard by pushing his teammates."
"Those two are taking it very well, not only them but every body's performance has been enhanced because of changesa in the captaincy," he concluded.
Aduana will travel to DR Congo to face AS Vita on Sunday in the CAF Confederation cup.
