The former vice Chief Executive of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Kennedy Agyepong, has expressed profound hope in the club’s ability to win the CAF Winners Cup on Sunday.
He said as the country’s sole representatives in CAF continental competitions this year, there is an obligation on Kotoko to do themselves and the whole nation proud by winning the grand final against Morocco’s Wydad Athletic club (WAC) at the Kumasi Sports Stadium.
These are contained in a goodwill message to Kotoko as the clock winds down towards the showdown. Mr Agyepong, known affectionately as “champion” among the playing body, urged them to stay focused throughout the whole 90 minutes and play to their maximum strength.
“Remember that Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene and the father of our great club, needs the Cup Winners Cup. Your management needs it, you the players need it, Asanteman needs it, and last, but not the least, Ghana needs it”, he exhorted them.
Agyepong noted that Kotoko are on the threshold of making history again by winning the Cup Winners Cup to crown the four-year rebuilding process. “Kotoko need to become the new Africa champions at this crucial moment of our great club. This is the goal which almost four years of rebuilding process set out to achieve”, he said.
Agyepong promised the players handsome winning bonus, saying he still remains a “true loyal and dedicated supporter of our great club.” He urged the players to emulate the old generation of the club who won the African clubs champions Cup on two occasions by becoming the first Ghanaian club to Cup Winners Cup.
