Kenpong gives bus to ex-Stars

The Kenpong Group of Companies has breathed life into the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the gold-winning 1965 Black Stars squad.

Last Wednesday, the award-winning company donated a 45-seater bus to the retired footballers at its Airport Residential Area office in Accra.

A Director at Kenpong Group, Azumah Nelson, a former world boxing champion, pointed out that the gesture forms part of the company's commitment to supporting sports, particularly football in the country.

He said in a post-presentation interview that 'we at Kenpong believe in rewarding excellence. These gentlemen are indeed heroes worth celebrating, they blazed the trail for the current generation to ride on and we are proud to associate with them.

'Most definitely, the bus will help them a great deal in their errands during the celebration of their 50th anniversary, which would be crowned with a fundraising dinner gala at Sun Lodge Hotel, Accra, on December 3.'

The boxing legend commended Despite Group of Companies, organizers of the event.

Highlights of the event will pit Asante Kotoko against the 1992 Black Stars year group (Losing Finalists) in a special game at the Accra Stadium on December 4.

A key member of the 1965 AFCON gold medalists, Reverend Osei Kofi, later presented an official invite to the fundraising dinner to president of Kenpong Group, Kennedy Agyapong and thanked him for the gesture.

In like manner, Dan Kweku Yeboah, one of the organizers and an official of the Despite Group, disclosed that Mr Agyapong remains the biggest contributor for the retired players, having donated GHC20,000 at a similar event held for the 1963 AFCON winning team.
