Ghana ace Kevin-Prince Boateng played the entire duration in Schalke’s 2-1 win over Augsburg on Friday to cement their grip on a UEFA Champions League spot.
The high-performing midfielder played in Klaas-Jan Huntelaar’s leveler 12 minutes before half-time.
Boateng had been skillfully played in by Julian Draxler but saw his effort saved by Alexander Manninger.
Huntelaar profited from that and tapped in the rebound from close range.
Tobias Werner put Augsburg in front after just five minutes when he capitalised on an ill-advised header back to goal from Schalke defender Tim Hoogland to slot a cool finish past Ralf Fahrmann and into the bottom corner.
Huntelaar completed the turnaround four minutes after the interval, slotting home from Sead Kolasinac’s pull-back to finish off a sweeping move from the visitors. Draxler then had a goal disallowed for offside, but that proved immaterial as Schalke hung on despite a late onslaught from the hosts.
