Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes believes Kobbie Mainoo is the key to unlocking the fluidity and potency of England’s midfield and attack at Euro 2024.

Kobbie Mainoo made his debut at the Euros in England’s 1-0 win over Serbia in their first group match.

The 19-year-old was left on the bench by coach Gareth Southgate as the Three Lions struggled to find the winner in their 1-1 stalemate against Denmark in their second group game.

Ahead of England’s final group game against Slovenia on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, Paul Scholes believes England’s team will flourish if Mainoo is handed a starting role.

'Now, with Kobbie Mainoo, if Kobbie Mainoo came in, all of a sudden, you have control; you have a player who makes your team play football,' Scholes told TNT Sports.

'Sometimes, it takes just one player to be able to do that.'

According to the former England midfielder, Mainoo’s presence in England’s midfield will complement the work of his other teammates.

'He’ll help Declan Rice. He’ll help Jude Bellingham, and he could possibly knit the whole thing together,' Scholes said.
