Kotey for Gambia 2005

Accra, April 5, GNA - Mr Alex Kotey is among eight central referees selected by the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) to officiate in the sixth Africa Under-17, Tournament to be staged in Gambia from 7-22 May, this year.

The Ghanaian is expected to leave for Gambia in early May for medical examination and fitness test before the commencement of the tournament.

Kotey's appointment comes less than a month after three other Ghanaians were appointed by the Federation of International Football (FIFA) to officiate in some World Cup qualifying matches. Other referees also invited for the tournament are Saar Pa Abdou - Gambia, Diouf Ousmane Abdou Karim - Senegal, Sidibe Boubacar - Mali, Omgba Zing Martin - Cameroon, Atsoo Kokou - Togo, Bennaceur Kacem - Tunisia and Phomane Paul - Lesotho.

CAF has also extended invitation to eight assistant referees to officiate in the tournament.

They are Manneh Seeedy - Gambia, Sow Magueye - Senegal, Konyoh Komi - Togo, Fassinou Alexis - Benin, Ayoub Mohamed - Morocco, Kormah Jallah - Liberia and Alem Costa - Cape Verde Islands.

The list of the central and assistant referees is dominated by referees from West Africa with nine out of the sixteen among the official referees appointed.
